Apartment & Neighborhood

I have undoubtably the most fortunate situation I could possibly have as a newcomer to a big city. I live with my best friend from 7th grade, Amy, who as a resident of the city for 4.5 yrs now, knows the ropes. So, in short, I get to come home every day to my best friend, AND I have a personal, live-in tour guide of New York City.

Our apartment is on the 6th floor of an building with a green door on the corner of Broadway and 105th street, which is on the upper west side only a few blocks from Central Park. Although my area may not be what the tourist mind conjures up as an image for "Broadway" (flashing neon lights), it is nonetheless a bustling, diverse, DENSE (of course...it's Manhattan) area.

From my window, I can see a yoga studio, a bakery, my little bitty gym (whose steep New York-style price serves as an effective motivator to get my last penny's worth out of it), a liquor store, a hardware store, a nail salon, a french bistro, a shoe repair shop, a video store, a dance studio, a sandwich shop, a pizza bar, McDonalds, a cafe, a pharmacy, and a few others I can't make out. Like I said, dense.

Oh-I can also see the very top of the Episcopal Cathedral from my window! Even though it's only the very top of the church, it's still so beautiful. When the whether gets a little warmer, I'm going to partake in the "Vertical Tour" of the church. You get to go up onto a buttress!
